BCARS Meeting Minutes - March 5, 2026
A meeting of the Bedford County Amateur Radio Society was called to order at 1930 hours at Bedford American Legion by President Zachary Pepple and a quorum was declared.
In attendance were (11):
John KB3DFZ, Kip K3IP, Zach KC3KHK, Bernie W3DRW, Lloyd K3QNT, Steve KE3ZT, Ellis KC3WMI, Jay K3SCM, Steve KA3UDR, Vince KD3AHS, Chris Casper KD3BQB.
Meeting Minutes were presented by John KB3DFZ. Motion to approve was made by KA3UDR and seconded by K3QNT.
Treasurer’s Report was presented by Lloyd K3QNT. Lloyd discussed various checks received, checks issued and cash deposits. The ending balances are:

A motion to approve was made by W3DRW, seconded by KA3UDR. Motion carried. The full treasurer’s report is on file.
Meshtastic
Chris Casper, KD3BQB from Susquehanna Wireless did a presentation on meshtastic, coverage across the state, and how mesh nodes work.
K3QNT motioned to work with Chris to establish meshtastic nodes on BCARS tower sites and within Bedford County. Seconded by KA3UDR.
Old Business
Parks On The Air K3IP discussed operating POTA from Shawnee Lodge. We have missed the window to operate from the lodge in March. However, we may still be able to do a POTA event later this month. KA3UDR motions that K3IP is charge. KE3ZT seconded. We will try for Saturday, April 4th - right after the April meeting. Lloyd will check on getting a pavilion.
New Business
KE3ZT reports that this weekend is the ARRL International DX Contest Saturday 7th and 8th.
KB3DFZ provided a repeater update. The firewall on Kinton Knob needed a power cycle. KB3DFZ set it up to power itself itself off an on again if it’s unresponsive after 5 minutes.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2006 hours.
